A Structured Journey That Works With You

The RTR Tuakana Programme is delivered over up to 14 weeks, with structured phases to prepare you for employment, training, or further education.

While some rangatahi may complete the full 14 weeks, others may already have key tools or supports in place — and can transition out sooner. Whether you stay the full course or just need targeted support, we’ll walk with you to ensure the time you spend with us sets you up for success.

Stage 1: Whakarite – Prepare (30% approximately 3 weeks) 🛠️

Set the foundation: Foundation & Documents 30%
  • In this stage, rangatahi are welcomed into the programme, build trust with their life coach, and complete the Maara Ngākau development plan.
  • They also begin gathering key documents: IRD number, bank account, ID, licence prep, etc.
  • Workshops start with mindset, hauora, motivation, and confidence building.

Stage 2: Whakatipu – Grow (50% approximately 7 weeks) 🔑

Build capability: Skills & Readiness 80%
  • This is the core training and skill-building phase. Rangatahi complete micro-credentials, attend job-readiness workshops, explore career or study pathways, and get practical help like CVs, interview prep, or site visits.
  • They also develop key life skills (e.g., budgeting, cooking, managing emotions, conflict resolution).

Stage 3: Whakatere – Launch (100% approximately 4 weeks) 🚀

Build capability: Transition & Support 100%
  • This is the transition and celebration phase. Rangatahi begin job interviews, start training courses, or move into work or education.
  • They receive tailored exit planning and are connected with pastoral support services.
  • Success is celebrated with peers before exiting the programme, and post-transition support kicks in for the next 6 months.
